NYC Marathon Sunday

The marathon is a huge deal in New York. The whole city gets into it. Part of the race was 5 or so blocks from me so I went to check it out.



Here are some of the runners. I wish I could have taken a picture of the crowd... there were so many people watching. There were bands, noise makers... it was so loud!

Some of the runners were dressed up. Here's Minnie Mouse. I saw someone else with an orange wig, and another guy dressed as someone from Kiss. Later, I saw him on the news and he said today was his 52nd marathon!

The runners ended with central park... so pretty!


Oh and on my way home I stopped in St John the Divine's garden... that big cathedral on Amsterdam. I always heard they had peacocks; today I saw the white one just roaming around the garden begging people for food!

The Brooklyn Bridge

Today I took a train downtown and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a long walk, but not as long as everyone warned me it was. There was an amazing view the whole way across.

My motivation for walking across the bridge:
Claims to be the oldest and best Brooklyn pizza shop. Hence the line that was forever long just to get a table. Hence the reason why I had soup for lunch at the cafe around the corner instead :)

Venezuelan Food

Last night I went to a Venezuelan restaurant in the east village... I was nervous because of my Ethiopian experience. But it was actually very good. I had a popular dish called an Arepa.. it is kind of like a sandwhich.. mne had chicken, cheese and onions in it... heres what it looks like :

A Day In Central Park

So I set out to Central Park to find the John Lennon Memorial, Strawberry Fields
I actually found it really fast. I thought it would take me awhile because Central Park is like a Jungle to me.




(this was the actual "Strawberry Field"... kind of boring... sorry John Lennon.

But here is the rest of the memorial where people come to lay down roses for him:


SO I found Strawberry Fields pretty quickly so I got brave and tried to find the Belvedere Castle... and I did :)

So I was feeling like a new yorker and all proud because I found my way around the jungle of Central Park... and then I couldn't find my way out! I walked for an extra two hours trying to get out of the park, only to end up on 5ave... which is on the east side.. I live on the west. Grr. But I did have time to take more cool pics..

I also found a sailboat pond where I believe you rent these mini boats an sail them in the pond..
I think.

Anddddd.... I saw my first subway rat! Well... two of them. You're going to think I'm crazy... but they were kind of cute!

My Birthday

On my birthday, before I had class, I went to visit Rockefeller Center:

I got there right as the today show was ending... but here is where all those people stand. It's really not as big as it looks on tv!
